GradingGrading writing is hard. It is based on several things. Looking for signs of growth in style, technique, approach, characteristics and qualities, in addition to basic toolbox skills like mechanics. It is finding signs of hard work. (What writing isn't hard work?) And, it is rewarding writers so they keep writing and publishing. Listen to this snippet from Richard Hugo's The Triggering Town about Creative Writing classes.
Expect feedback from not only your teacher, but classmates. Give feedback. Encourage. Grow. Try new things. Show up to the writing desk and put words on paper. Revise and re-arrange like words, sentences, and paragraphs are puzzles or mosaics or colllages. See the Self-Directed Learner Rubric under Syllabus in BB Two Words On Plagiarism- Be originalDon't. Do. It. People get sued. They lose jobs, they lose dignity, they lose money, they lose grades and promotions. Your reputation and integrity are two very importance images. Remember, you won't be published if you copy others. You may be rejected for being original at first. New stuff requires change and adjustment. it also makes an impact. It lasts.
